Cactus Walk & Moon Light Hike
Maricopa County Park Dist put together a "fruity cactus" natural walk and moon light hike this evening. I thought it would be a good opportunity for us to check out what the park dist has to offer.
It was interesting to learn about saguaro cactus and how natives used to utilize it. It was quite amazing to see a 15' tall saguaro and found out it is over 50 years old. The ones that has "arms" are at least 70 years old.
As the sun set and the moon rose, we went on a self-guided 2.2 miles hike within Usery Mountain Park. The elevation there is 1900'+ and overlook eastern Mesa. At night, the lights are quite beautiful, but not as much as the desert under the moon light.
